These baskets were originally used for agricultural purposes, designed to separate the rice from the rice-husks after the process of pounding the rice, or even for drying herbs, fruits, and a variety of other items.
They have played a crucial role in numerous cultural practices in Africa, showcasing our traditional craftsmanship.
I love the versatility of these baskets; their natural materials make them an ideal accent for creating a unique Afrocentric atmosphere in any space. Whether displayed on a wall or as part of a decorative arrangement, these baskets enhance the quality of beauty in any environment.
Additionally, they can be used as a functional storage, providing both beauty and practicality. Their unique designs and textures contribute to a warm and inviting atmosphere.
In Liberia, we call them Fanners, and in my Kplio dialect, we refer to this type of basket as Mahn-ehn.
These beautiful baskets are hand woven from rattan by one of the finest Kplio weavers in Joploken Grand Kru County, Liberia, West Africa. This region is known for its exceptional craftsmanship in basket making.
